Catching Joy was pleased to support Reach Out and Read (ROR), a national pediatric literacy non-profit, which makes literacy a standard part of pediatric primary care so that children grow up with books and love of reading. Read and Romp is a unique family event which allows children to travel through the pages of some of their favorite storybooks. Activity booths, games, and arts and crafts based on such family favorites as If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Frog and Toad, and Runaway Bunny are designed to provide hours of fun for children and their families. Along with interactive storybook stations, there was a buffet lunch with musical entertainment, and a visit from storybook characters like Clifford, the Big Red Dog. Participation in Read and Romp supports RORs mission. Catching Joy supplied the art materials and the staffing at the Reading Makes Me Feel Good book station at the event. Hundreds of children made bookmarks to bring home. Catching Joy will also organizes events at various schools, libraries, and book stores around the area to promote the Read and Romp event and support RORs mission. Joy Olaes Surprenant, Catching Joy Founder and President, served as co-chair along with Kirke Hall and Janice McCourt, of 2009 Read and Romp.
